Accepting unwanted bicycles from the public
Discussion: Many people do not want to see anything go to waste because it damages the environment. Some things are easy to recycle like cans, plastic containers and paper. It is hard to recycle many things. Some things are harder to recycle because only certain places will take them such as batteries, yard waste, and bicycles. Bicycles could be recycled at the scrap metal “yard” but the service that we offer is more environmentally friendly. Plus we offer a social benefit, such as employing people to put the bikes back to use in our own city.
The Bicycle co-op will accept unwanted bikes for refurbishment for re-use. There is a cost for us to provide this service. There is a demand for our service because people want good things to happen and for their unwanted junk to go to a good use.

Our request to donors of bicycles or parts
Thank you for considering making a donation of bicycles or parts! At the same time please consider our perspective and our request: We are making use of unwanted bikes in a new way, including the constant effort of organizing and teaching mechanic skills with young people and people looking for work. Due to the teaching, the storage space, and the time and materials that we put into every bike before it is ready we request a contribution for every bicycle that we take in. Currently we aim for $10 per bike. If you could help us with a $10 donation or more, for each bike you would like to contribute, that would be great. Can you do this to help us with our mission?
